The Junior National Polo defeated Australia and advanced to the semi-finals of the World Cup

A breath away from the medal is the Junior National Polo at World Championship (U18) held in Chengdu, China. Eftychia Karagianni’s band crushed Australia 16-3 in the quarter-finals and now needs one win in two matches to secure a medal, starting with tomorrow’s (9/21) semi-final with the USA.

The Greek team was perfect in the first two eight minutes, where they led 8-1, conceding the only goal two seconds before the end of the half! Offensively, the national team started with 5/5 on the player above and left no room for reaction to the “stingers”. An amazing game was played by Niki Piovan, who scored five goals, without falling behind any of the international players.

In tomorrow’s (21/9) semi-final, the opponent of the “blue and white” will be the USA, who defeated the Netherlands 11-10 after a big derby. The American women reached the top four with an absolute victory in four matches, although in the first phase they needed the penalty shootout to overcome the “obstacle” of Hungary with 13-12 (they also defeated Australia with 16-12 and New Zealand with 12-6). The match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., but may be moved to 12:30 p.m. – as was the case with today’s quarter-final of the national team – as the organizers set the matches of the “host” China at 2:00 p.m.

The eight minutes (with Australia first): 0-3, 1-5, 1-3, 1-5

The composition of the national team: Konstantopoulou, Margariti, Kovacevich 2, Fouraki 2, Drakotou 2, Piovan 5, Kanellopoulou, Beta 1, Galanopoulou 1, Klapsianou, Karabetsou 2, Kyriakopoulou, Economou 1
