It was the home side who came into the match stronger, playing strong defense and taking an 11-4 lead, while Panionios cut to 13-9 and 15-11, but saw Peristeri close out the first period with a 19-13 lead. .
The team of Giorgos Limniatis remained at a “safe distance” at the beginning of the second quarter, until Panionios found a rhythm, going ahead with 31-30, while then the two teams went hand in hand in the score, until 39- 40 of the first half.
In the third period, the visitors were superior and even led by +11 (45-56), but Peristeri found a reaction and made the game a derby, until its last seconds, with Panionios finally taking the victory with 74 -73.
Action in the “Nikos Fassouras” tournament will continue on Saturday (21/9, 19:00) with AEK facing Panionios, while Peristeri-AEK will be played on Sunday.
