Historic record and silver medal for Girni at the World U20 Beach Wrestling Championship

With a great record and the silver medal of Raphael Girni, the Beach Wrestling U20 World Championship, held at Paralia Katerinis, was completed with complete success.

In a unique evening, the 300 athletes enjoyed the impressive field and gave their best in order to claim their place on the podium. A great protagonist for Greece was Raphael Girnis. The Greek champion reached the final of 90+ kg and gave our country the silver medal.

With this medal, Girnis wrote History, as he became the first athlete to win four medals at the U20 World Championships. The athlete from Katerina was defeated by Zandoyanchuk (Ukraine) in the grand final.

The 4th place in the World Championship was won by Eugenia Lambrou. The Greek champion entered the 4th, but could not score a victory to get a medal. However, fourth place in the world is undoubtedly a great success.

Today in Paralia Katerinis the 4th stop of the Beach Wrestling World Series is being held.

The matches are organized by the Hellenic Wrestling Federation with the cooperation of the Municipality of Katerini, the Regional Unit of Pieria, Olympia En Dio and the Ukrainian* Beach Wrestling Federation
