Rogavopoulos: “I didn’t go to the national team for important reasons – I’m not thinking about Olympiakos or Panathinaikos now”

by

Enigmatic about the reasons he chose to stay away from the National team last summer, he presented himself Nikos Rogavopoulos speaking to Vitoria’s website. The international forward denied that he had a proposal from him Olympic in the summer and he didn’t show that… he is dying to return to Greece for one of the two “eternals”. He spoke in detail about:

-the decision not to go to the national team in the summer: “I didn’t go to the national team for personal reasons. I spoke with coach Spanoulis and decided not to go for a number of important reasons that I would not like to make known. I know it’s a strange decision, but only those who make such a decision understand it. I don’t care if people understand or not, the important thing is that I understand.”

-if he had an offer from Olympiakos: “I don’t think it was ever an option for either side. I have a contract with a specific clause that would have to be paid and this was not likely to happen. Even if the clause didn’t exist, I would like to stay in Baskonia. There was no discussion with Olympiakos, so there was no interest from either side.”

-the expensive rosters of the “eternals”: “It will be interesting to see how they manage these rosters. All these stars with big contracts will want to play and it won’t be easy for the coaches. If they find good chemistry, they will automatically become candidates for winning the Euroleague.”

-whether he is thinking of returning to Greece: “It will depend on many things and if I want to return to Greece. I feel I have something good here in Baskonia. It would be a challenge to play in a team as big as Olympiacos or Panathinaikos. Just look at their rosters. It’s not on my mind at the moment though. I would like to continue playing for a while longer away from Greece”.
