Angel Crespo retired: “Blessed football”

by

Titles at the end of a remarkable career that had a great station and him PAOK put o Angel Crespo. After two years at APOEL, the Spanish defender announced that he is retiring at 37, thanking football for what it has offered him, materially and otherwise. He competed from 2016 to 2022 in the Northern Biceps winning the undefeated championship as well as four Cups with 212 appearances, 9 goals and 8 assists.

I’m not going to lie to you, I made this decision months ago, listening to my heart and letting my head reason, but it’s not easy to write these words, even though I know the time has come…

When I made my debut for Sevilla FC in 2005, I never thought that this moment would come and to be honest that it would come in the way that I can today almost 20 years later, when I was a child dreaming every day and I blew out the candles every birthday with the same desire I never really believed that I could do it, so many things and so beautiful, that’s why it’s not easy to say goodbye to the dream of your life, to understand and recognize that everything ends and that this stage has to end and I want it to be in the best possible way, I don’t know what life will be like without that tickling feeling when you enter a stadium with thousands of people, some cheering, others want to kill you (I still don’t know which I liked more), walking on the bus to the stadium, the music in the locker room, that feeling when you save a goal or even better when you score it, also that feeling when you failed and that anger ran through your body that now was the time to show who you are, those hugs to your teammates, the final whistle of the game, sad when you lost and happy when you won, life without that smell of grass, without that little face of the kids who seemed to see something divine when they looked at you… well, in all these children I was also there, I dreamed, I made an effort, I sacrificed myself and fulfilled the dream of my life which today I say goodbye to!

When I was young I was told “kid, put the ball down, you can’t make a living from this”, blessed ball and blessed football. Thank you for so much, thank you for making me so happy!!! i will miss you».
