With the collection of nine medals for the Greek colors, the exciting 1st day at the Loutraki 2024 World Handball Championship, which is being held for the first time in history in an amphitheater, namely at the Alexandria Conference Center, was completed.

The Greek delegation made a strong start and stood out among the 34 countries from all over the world participating in this very large event. In a day that offered intense emotions, rich action and high adrenaline, Greece with its dynamic champions stole the show and collected nine medals in the juniors and masters that opened the curtain of the World Armwrestling Championship in the left-handed style.

Of these, five were of… dull gold, while one more was silver and the remaining three were of a bronze hue.

The gold medals were won by Dimitris Filikidis (78 kg, masters), Odysseas Diamantis (57 kg, w), Andreas Chatzistavrou (78 kg, u15), Yiannis Panchenko (63 kg, u18) and Christos Papadopoulos (+86 kg, u18) .

The silver medal was celebrated by Christina Fragala (78 kg, women’s masters) and the bronzes were taken by Giorgos Mergoutis (57 kg, u15), Vassilis Filikidis (63 kg, u15) and Anastasios Makridis (63 kg, u18).

A total of 28 members of the Greek delegation competed, who had many excellent placings in the first places of their age categories.

The games were honored with their presence by the Mayor of Loutraki, Perachora and Agios Theodoros Giorgos Gionis and the deputy mayor Sakis Papathanasiou.

On Thursday (3/10) the same age groups will compete in the right hand style.

It should be noted that the entrance for the public will be free, giving everyone the opportunity to watch the exciting arm wrestling matches up close.
