“Three out of three” and points lead from the beginning for Olympiakos, Panathinaikos in A1 men’s table tennis

by

In the SEF, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos easily made the “3 on 3” in A1 men’s table tennis and with 6 points they already took the lead in the ranking. The 2024 champion defeated Tataula, the runner-up Aris Nikias and in general on the second day of the championship the favorites prevailed and no ambiguous match was recorded.

For women, there was only one match on Sunday and it was between Olympiakos and AEK in SEF. The team from Piraeus had the odds on their side and confirmed it with a 4-1 set, but always in these cases the names and history of the opposing competing clubs add interest.

Each A1 women’s team completed two matches after these two days and with 4 points, Olympiacos and Sarises Florinas are at the top, who finished their games at home.

In the men’s third matchday, all meetings ended with 4-0. Olympiacos once again had the Swedish two-time “silver” Olympic champion Truls Meregord in the trio.

In the match between Panathinaikos and Aris Nikias, the “close” and highly spectacular match between the Portuguese Joao Monteiro and the Czech Michal Obeslo caught the eye. It was decided in five sets in favor of Monteiro.

In Pera’s game against Kavala, defender Dionysis Timamopoulos pressured Christos Christonov until Pera’s Bulgarian-Cypriot left-hander prevailed with a 3-2 set.

In the women’s A1, the champion Olympiacos lined up in full, while the holder of the Attica Cup, AEK, did not have the European champion of the youth categories, Elena Zacharia, at her disposal during the weekend. Olympiacos looked to justify the predictions as favourites, AEK wanted to be as competitive as possible and chase things, but in the end the team from Piraeus prevailed with 4-1 sets.

On an individual level, the strongest point was the match between Meramvelliotaki and Papadimitriou, the current champion of Greece in the junior singles and the champion of Greece in the singles for young women. The Olympiakos athlete lost the first two sets by a margin, but “turned” the situation 3-2 in her favor, forming the final team score.

She also had a very good result in the premiere with a 3-0 set against Dimitra-Thomaida Tsekoura of Pera Athens, also a member of the pre-national women’s team.

Sunday’s today’s matches, moreover, were the last competitive action for Papadimitriou, in view of the European Championship of individual competitions that starts on Tuesday in Austria, as it was in the SEF for Yiannis Sgouropoulos, Giorgos Stamatouros and Konstantinos Angelakis.

Katerina Toliou and Elizabeth Terpou, who will also compete in Leeds, did not have a match on Sunday. The delegation leaves on Monday led by the federal coaches, Kostas Vatsaklis and Giorgos Karytsa.
