The request to turn the Women’s Volleyball League into a professional league brought Yannis Vroutsis, EOPE and PASAP to a meeting on Monday, where an exploratory contact was made between the three sides.
“The political will is a given, the consensus of the people surrounding women’s volleyball, as well, what remains and, of course, is the critical one regarding what the next steps will be, to ensure the viability of the League and to legally enshrine it.
I asked Mr. Karabetsos and his colleagues to carry out an economic and technical study and in two months from now, on December 21, we will have tangible evidence and examine the steps that will be needed to have a new professional League”, said the Deputy Minister Sports.
Mr. Vroutsis spoke about the dynamics of the sport among female athletes. “This fact makes us believe that volleyball can become the vehicle for further strengthening the presence of women in sports, which today in our country is only 26.4% of all athletes and will help the most in development, also promoting gender equality”, added Mr. Vroutsis.
The athletes who attended the meeting were the vice-president of PASAP, Athina Papafotiou (Panathinaikos A.O.), and Eva Hadava (A.E.K.), Anna Spanou (A.O.N. Amazones), Emily Constantello ( A.O.N. Amazones), Maria Nomikou (G.S. Panionios), Katerina Souffleri (A.O. Markopoulou Revoil), Maria Jenitsaridis (A.O.N.S. Milos), Marialena Artakianou (Olympiakos S. F.P.) and Gina Lambrousi (Olympic S.F.P.).
