Messina: “Congratulations to Barzokas and Olympiakos – McKissick’s mentality deserves respect”

by

Olympiacos had an ideal start to the first “devil’s week” of this year’s Euroleague, which defeated Armani Milano 89-68 in the SEF and went up to 2-1, before facing Efes away from home.

The coach of the Italian club, Ettore Messinagave credit to the “red and white” and George Bartzokas for their excellent appearance, while standing on his mentality Shaquille McKissickwhich the coach of the Piraeus team also did.

In detail, what he said:

“Congratulations to coach Bartzokas and Olympiakos. They gave a very good effort, showed concentration, personality and took the victory easily. For us, another match went with ups and downs and many good and bad moments, we have three minutes where we play well and others not well. In the first quarter we managed to go ahead, but Olympiacos took the lead again in two possessions. In the second quarter, the same thing happened, we slowed down and fell behind again.

The same thing happened in the third, when we were down to -4, Olympiacos made a burst and got away. We have to be patient in our selections, we had some after the first pass, but we are in a hurry and that’s why we have a problem. We had five players who worked and others who didn’t, we have several new players, but also experienced ones who can help. We have another game in 48 hours, we are looking forward after a match that was a lesson for us in a difficult venue”.

On whether this Olympiacos is the most complete and most difficult: “He’s got tremendous depth and think, Milutinov wasn’t playing either, neither was Goss. That depth will play a key role in this year’s EuroLeague. Olympiacos and Panathinaikos have big rosters that will help with injuries, unlike us. McKissick deserves credit, he is an example for every player to wait for his moment. In such a roster you can stay out for 2-3 matches, others in his position might have been disappointed, but he took his chance. Respect for Olympiakos’ work and McKissick’s mentality.”
