Serena Williams: Had a neck cyst removed

OR Serena Williams revealed that she underwent successful surgery to remove a cyst the size of a grapefruit (!) from her throat and is recovering, following the instructions of her treating doctors.

The 43-year-old American informed her followers that last May, she discovered one lump on the right side of her neck and that the MRI revealed the presence of a branchial cyst. Fortunately it was benign tumorwhich simply had to be removed, as it was.

“I’m still recovering, but I’m getting better. Health comes first“, characteristically wrote the top tennis player of all time, who won 23 Grand Slams in her career and added: “I discovered a large lump in my neck and struggled. I did a few tests and they were all negative. I ended up removing it, it was so big. It was the size of a grapefruit and it hurt when they took it out. But everything went well and I am very happy that I had wonderful doctors».

It is recalled that Williams won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 1999 and the last in 2017 at the Australian Open, a tournament in which she has won seven times, while in her trophy case, she also has seven Wimbledon, six US Open and three Roland-Garros.

@serena Back in May I found a lump showing on my neck. I immediately went to the doc got an mri and was told I have a brachial cyst. Have you ever heard of that? They said I don’t need to get it removed if I don’t want. So I didn’t get it but it kept growing. I decided to get more test and 3 test and one biopsy later everything is still negative but doctors advised I get it removed asap because it was the size of a small grapefruit and it could get infected or worse leak. So this is me removing it. I am feeling so grateful, and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy. I still made it to American doll with Olympia as promised.
