Two athletes originally from Great Britain and the Mexico died on Thursday during the first day of the finals at World Triathlon Championship held in the Torremolinos region in southern Spain.
According to the organizers, two athletes died during the races, which included a 75-meter swim at Los Alamos Beach, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a 5-kilometer run along the beach.
Local media reported that the 57-year-old athlete from Britain, whose identity has not been released, suffered a cardiac arrest.
More than 5,500 athletes from 80 countries participate in the event, which takes place from October 17 to 20.
