He decided to come back to experience the joy of the game again. This, essentially, is the title of the interview, granted by Sasha Vezenkov in COSMOTE TV and him Vasilis Skoundis on the show Pick ‘N Rollwith his Bulgarian forward Olympiakou to talk about his experience on the other side of the Atlantic last season.
“The joy for basketball, for the game. Enjoy what you do. Many times we have said that we are blessed and the problems in our life are different. But when we enter our microcosm and this tunnel, we think we have the biggest problem in the world. It’s not like that“, the international power forward initially said and talked about his experience in the NBA.
“I think when you get younger it’s easier to adapt because you don’t have too many shows. You haven’t experienced how things are in Europe, the reality and everyday life. The older you get, the harder it is to adjust to all this newness. And it’s not just basketball, but – if we have to talk about basketball – it’s the talent that they have and it’s unimaginable».
Asked if he had a more difficult time compared to his presence in Barcelonareplied: “When I went to Barcelona, I immediately said “whoa, where are we now? What players they are!”. And it took me time. And while I had played some games, half a year etc, the bang wasn’t that big. Now when you leave, as I left, that is, with all that I tried and achieved with the team and on an individual level and you go somewhere – there is no guarantee in sports – but you have been told one, it becomes… ten. That is, you realize that you are 29 years old and you don’t have many years left. Yes, if I could try a second year? 100% I mean, I had the chance. It’s not like someone kicked me out or someone told me you won’t be here. But when you are 6-7 years old, enjoying what you do is very important. Yes, not everything is easy in life. This is what my parents and the education I have received have taught me. You should not always be in the comfort zone. But I think that the safe place, that the team will embrace you, how the organization works, the guys I know… I think I’m happy again. If I see things a little more clearly, I think I fought but I don’t know if mentally I gave 100% to what I was doing, not in terms of basketball, but in terms of the mental part. Then came the injury and it was very difficult. I never regretted going».
About his feelingson his return to Olympiacos: “July 25th at noon… people go on vacation… Just that they came to see me means a lot».
