Koroivos: “The decision of the Municipal Council leads us to dissolution and disappearance”

The decision of the Municipality of Ilida to charge 5 euros for every hour of training in the city’s indoor gym is causing a huge problem in Korivos. The team of Amaliada states in its announcement that this is how the club is led to “dissolution and disappearance”.

The announcement in detail:

“The Board of Directors of ASA Korivos in an Extraordinary Board of Directors held on Wednesday 10-23-2024 unanimously decided the following from those present:

We are strongly opposed as an association to the decision of the Municipal Council of 21-10-2024 regarding a fee for the use of the sports facilities of the Municipal Sports Center of Amaliada. The imposition of this arbitrary charge of €5.00 for each training hour, without any economic study, essentially leads to the dissolution of Koroivos as the decision leads to the disappearance of the infrastructure sections. The hourly charge of each training hour at €5.00 essentially destroys every effort to create and develop the Olympic Sports that the Association serves. The logic and philosophy of the decision is that the Municipality comes and becomes a partner in the Revenues of the club’s development departments, ignoring the Expenses which more often than not exceed the Revenues, so it financially dehydrates the operation of these departments and leads them to lock-up.

The Majority faction of the Municipality of Ilida “lightheartedly” made a decision, ignoring the fact that amateur sports clubs are by law Private Legal Entities of a non-profit nature.

This in itself means that there is no Profit and any additional output is sought.

During the entire previous period, there was no substantial consultation by the responsible Deputy Mayor of Sports, apart from 1 meeting where we were not present and 1-2 messages via viber. There was no official notification of his written proposal to the Municipal Council, to the sports associations about what he will actually propose, nor was there a dialogue with the formation of a common proposal.

From 10-09-2024, Korivos had submitted an official written proposal to the Mayor and the President of the Board of Directors, more in our opinion it would be a reasonable consideration which could serve the sports of the city. We never received an answer and we do not know why our proposal was not read at the Municipal Council meeting.

At the heart of the problem, until 2020 when the sports structures were closed and the sports clubs were exempted from fees for the use of the sports structures by the General Secretariat of Sports, until 2020, it gave the Municipality of Elis €360.00 per month.

With the cunning and insidious decision of the Municipal Council of €5.00 per training hour, it changes the calculation and the philosophy, counting hours of use.

With this way of determining the “price” the €360.00 for Korivos becomes approximately €2,600.00 per month!!!!

This happens because Korivos has in all sports (Basketball, Volleyball, etc.) 10 competitive age divisions (Teens, Children, Pampaides, Mini, Corasides, Juniors, etc.) which participate in the respective championships of Sports Associations of the Region, which these competitive teams should practice. Therefore, since these competition divisions are many, the training hours needed to achieve their sporting goals are also many. All these hours are added up at the end of each month and the monthly salary of €2,600.00 is now requested by the Municipal authority as compensation.

Can these sums of money be served by Korivos?

The answer is of course No!!!!

According to the competition budget of the development departments that has been set up, for example, for the basketball department for the 2024-25 competition season, the total income will reach the amount of €19,125.00, having approximately 85 infrastructure children who will pay for 9 months €25.00 per month. The corresponding Expenses for the same period of the same departments reach €28,000.00 (Coaches’ Fees and Travel, EFKA, Expenses for holding Games, Travel Expenses, clothing, material, etc.).

As everyone understands, the budget is already in deficit by around €9,000.00, which will be covered by members’ contributions and extra subscriptions from the parents of the athletes. All the above analysis is only for basketball, respectively the same applies to the other departments as well!!!! These are also known to the G.G.A., since Korivos, through the Sports Registry, has been making a detailed annual electronic account for 5 years with Income and Expenses.

Only the Municipality of Ilida was indifferent to all of the above and is going to shake the beautiful thing that we and the previous administrations have been building for 30 years, creating a Sports Jewel and Model, which is admired, appreciated and is an example to be emulated for the entire Greek Territory, except by some electors who, if not in ordered service, are certainly in aphasia.

First of all, you should know that all the facilities of the sports center have been made with GGA funding, from programs and various investment tools as well as with additional grants from the bodies of the General Government on the occasion of various international events, which were brought to the city of Amaliada by Korivos .( Pan-European Women’s Basketball 2003, Pan-European Children’s Basketball 2005, Pan-European Youth Basketball 2006 and 2008).

All of the above was not done with money from the Municipality’s treasury, the only obligation is the operation and maintenance of the facilities. So you have to pay the PPC and the payroll of the employee you have at the sports center. Maintenance has been minimal for 20 years (leaky roof, fire safety). You can’t do that either???

The fee of the amateur sports clubs for the use of Municipal Sports grounds as we found and is known to almost all the Municipalities of Greece ranges from Free to €150.00 a month at most for each sport and of course nothing to do with €2,600.00 a month that were envisioned by some electors here in Amaliada. These sums therefore have the logic to cover the consumables, paper detergents, parquet brooms, etc. It is not an obligation of any amateur club to pay the PPC of a sports center – beyond the impossibility of service – and especially the sports center of Amaliada which deliberately and the truth is deceptively silent.

They tell us that the Sports Center has expenses, it owes €2,000,000.00 to PPC!!!

Why ladies and gentlemen?? , tell the truth to the people so that they know, from the lights of the closed gymnasium the rpm reached this height or because the PPC has set up a substation at the sports center and has connected both 2 boreholes, one of which sends when it has the city needs water in the water tower for the water supply, while throughout the summer season it works incessantly for this purpose. We are talking about three-phase supplies that work with motors of several HP and we all understand about the power consumption especially of the last decade.

No Municipal Authority can act deceptively and make decisions concerning the viability and life of other entities of the city with the tactics of ignorance and surprise, how much more so when we talk about Koroivos, which is a living advertisement of the city, produces extroversion and shows paths of progress for every healthy action.

This decision of the Municipal Council should be revoked immediately, without delay to analyze and discuss the data and set the reasonable price.

Any different attitude leads to the dissolution of sports organizations, the dissolution of the development departments of clubs and our children the children of our city in hard and difficult things.

The Sports Organization of Korivos is from now on alert, convening an Extraordinary General Assembly for Wednesday 06-11-2024 and in consultation with the other Sports Associations of the city we will peak our reaction and our opposition by all means.

Keep your hands away from the sports club of the Prefecture of Ilia. Understand, be informed, understand what you voted for”.
