Olympiacos-Real Madrid: A highly demanding test with the aim of victory-balm for the “red and whites”

by

The most demanding test against Real Madrid tonight (21:15, Novasports Prime, News Bulletin 247, sport-fm.gr) at SEF for Olympiakos, for the 6th matchday of the Euroleague.

Given the difficult task of the “red and whites”, who enter the second “devil’s week” of the season (followed by the game against Barcelona on Thursday, again at SEF) wanting to leave behind their bad recent performances.

Coming from two consecutive away defeats-carbon, against Efes (91-89) and Bayern Munich (84-80), Olympiacos was also defeated 48 hours ago in its big home derby with Panathinaikos for the 4th matchday of Stoiximan GBL, showing their ugly racing face again. With the final 78-71 against their “eternal” rival rather… flattering for the “red and whites”, they were unable to show the slightest improvement and get the reaction that most of us expected to see.

Given the very intense reflection that exists in the ranks of Olympiakos, tonight he is asked to do what he did not do in his previous games and get a victory that will be equivalent to… balm, against the very high quality Real Madrid.

As far as competitions are concerned, the only one who will not be available to Giorgos Bartzokas is the one who has been absent for a long time, Keenan Evanssince o Nigel Williams-Goss although he has fully recovered from the injury that plagued him, he took precautions and did not compete in the derby against Panathinaikos, so that he will be 100% ready for tonight’s game.

“Real is a team that plays with high intensity, they score a lot and of course they are the best team in not allowing two points, because of Tavares and Ibaka. On the other hand it allows some other things in the game, which we are called to “hit” there”said the coach of Olympiakos ahead of the match, with McKissick to add:

“Real always have a very good team, they have impressive players, like us, I hope it will be a fun game and the atmosphere will match the quality of the game. With these teams that have rosters like that, it’s what happens during the games that decides the games. It’s who makes the shots and who misses the shots. If we make the shots we are the best team again, if we miss the shots everyone has to leave the team… I don’t know… I’ve been in the team for a long time and I know how it goes.”.

As for the Realseems to be coming into her own after her mediocre start to this season. With a record of 3-2 in the Euroleague, it started with defeats against Bayern and Baskonia in the first three games, but comes to SEF with an elevated mentality, after the consecutive victories against Panathinaikos and Red Star. Last Sunday (27/10) they overcame the obstacle of Manresa with more than enough comfort (86-61), going up to 3-2 in the Spanish league as well.

In racing, o Chus Mateo he cannot count on the services of the wounded Garuba and Feliswith Real’s coach stating ahead of tonight’s match: “We will have to be very focused against an opponent who is always solid. They are a great team that often reach the final stages of the Euroleague. Due to its roster, tradition, history and level, Olympiacos will be high again this year”.

For last season, the two teams met three times, with Real smiling both in the two games of the regular season (77-71 in SEF and 90-85 in Madrid), and in the semi-final of the Final 4 in Berlin, when the ” queen” prevailed 87-76 and celebrated the qualification to the grand final, where it lost the trophy to Panathinaikos.

The referees of tonight’s match will be Damir Javor (Slovenia), Milivoge Jovcic (Serbia) and Milan Nedovic (Slovenia).
