The Men’s – Women’s World Championship ended in the best way in “Dyo Aorakia”, in Heraklion, Crete.
Nikitas Markoulakis climbed to the second step of the podium at -94k. NO-Gi, after three wins and one loss, this one in the final to Georgian Alexander Tevzatze.
Earlier, at -94k. Alexandros Kastrounis reached the semi-finals and finally climbed to the third step of the podium, in yet another Greek success.
Thus, our country completes its presence in the event with 10 medals, 4 of which are silver and 6 bronze, a highly successful presence of the Greek champions, the result of hard work from all sides (federation, athletes, coaches), with the sport to show that it has a present, but most importantly, it also has a bright future, on the world “map” of the sport.
On yesterday’s final day in the men’s and women’s categories, we almost had two more bronze medals. However, in the race for third place, Spyros Topalidis at -85k. and Evagelos Hormovas at -77k, were defeated in the crucial match. Despite all that, they finished 5th in the world which is still a huge success.
It should be noted that our country was ranked 28th in the medal table (based on the ranking that counts the most gold), however in total harvest, it is 11th!
Kazakhstan became the first power in the world with 45 medals, of which 18 were gold. France followed in second place and Ukraine in third, with Germany and Thailand completing the top 5.
