Lavrio celebrated in the “thriller” with Panionios, beating me 84-80 in overtime and taking his first win at this year’s Stoiximan GBL!
After the match, the coach of the winners, Kostas Mexasspoke of the character his players showed in difficult times, adding that this victory is very important to him, for personal reasons.
What Lavrio’s coach said in detail:
“It was a very difficult match, as we naturally expected, against the team that currently has the best defense in terms of numbers in the league. We knew it was going to be a lot of ups and downs, we also had to play very good defense today to stay close to the score and win the match. I think to a certain extent we succeeded even though we made some mistakes that we made in some key moments.
We could have had a little better offensive execution, some things we didn’t do so well. But I think what matters today after four defeats and especially the way they happened, was the win. The children showed character in difficult times. It was the first time, I think, that the defense kept us in difficult moments of the attack. It’s something we want and try to work on in training.
Congratulations to the players, it was a very important win and I hope we continue with the same spirit and even more to improve and achieve more victories. I thank them and they also know why I thank them. Today’s win was very important for me. For purely personal, non-basketball reasons. I hope we can continue like this.
