Greece “adopted” a Ukrainian boxer

After a communication that the president of the Hellenic Boxing Federation, Haris Mariolis, had with the Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteri Avgenakithe Ukrainian Oleh Sapizak took part in the international boxing tournament “Adriatic Pearl” under the guidance of Greek coaches.

THE Sapizak is one of the young athletes who escaped to Poland and from there traveled to Montenegro to take part in the event. However, due to the war in Ukraine, he did not have his coach by his side and that is why he would not be allowed to play.

This was the occasion that made the Greek federation support him, with the same excitement to thank all the members of the Greek delegation, our country and the Government, while in the end he wished peace to the world.

For its part, the federation did not stop there, as it invited Sapizak to come to Greece to continue training and take part in the international tournaments that will take place in our country.

The president of the Hellenic Boxing Federation, Haris Mariolis, stated:

“It is our honor to help a child compete in a tournament. We felt obliged to stand by the Ukrainian champion, who did not have a coach because of the war. I would like to congratulate the coaches and the members of the Greek delegation in Montenegro and especially to thank the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, for his guidance and sensitivity in these matters “.



On his part, the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, stressed:

“We did the obvious, honoring the History of Greece and the sports ideals, whose world cradle is in our country. Alas if we did not stand by the Ukrainian athlete, alas if in this absurd war we were not – once again – on the right side of history. He has our full support in what he and his teammates need to overcome, as much as possible the difficulties of the war “.
