THE Xavier Rattan-Mays acquired in the summer from Real Madridin a move that caused surprise, since her former guard AEK Betsson had never competed in Euroleagueeven though he is now in his 30s.
So far, the Canadian guard isn’t getting much playing time in Europe’s top competition, something he has some complaints about. In fact, he expressed his displeasure through a cryptic, but clear, tweet, which he posted after the 16 points he put up against the Gosh in the Spanish league.
“Check what you can and keep improving every day”specifically wrote Rattan-Mayswith reporters asking him Chus Mateo at Real’s media day, if he perceives this post as a complaint of the player, let him prove him right and emphasize that he is not worried!
What Matteo said in detail:
I have spoken a lot with Xavier and I speak a lot with all the players in the team. It’s not something I’m worried about. He’s a guy who’s amazing in training and doing what he can, which is training and working. He cannot be bothered about what is out of his hands.
It seems like a very clear post to me, but it doesn’t give me the feeling of resignation or anything like that. It’s all about getting better and it’s obvious he understands that and understands what I want.
Everything is open to interpretation, but he doesn’t say anything offensive or mean, which might upset someone. He assures that he is trying to get along and is checking as much as he can. Seems like a proper tweet to me.
He will gain confidence. It’s nothing to worry about. To me it is a thought that he externalized and he has every right to say that he will continue to work. I hope he will slowly become the player we are waiting for. I am convinced that it will be so.
Control only what you can control and continue to improve every single day.
