Kaltsidou is officially at Athinaikos

As of Thursday, Stella Kaltsidou is officially the new coach of the Athens women’s basketball team. The Byron team announced the hiring of the Greek technician with a long-term partnership, confirming the verbal agreement of the two sides during the week.

“Stella Kaltsidou is at the helm. The long-term cooperation with the Greek technician is final, aiming at our peaks!

Athenian Qualco is pleased to announce the hiring of Stella Kaltsidou for the coming years as Head Coach of the team. The current owner of the FIBA ​​Eurocup, as well as the cup and championship M. of Britain with the London Lions, last year’s top coach of the year in England, one of the top Greek players of all time and already well-established in her job, undertakes to lead the team into the new era and “build” on the foundations she laid in the previous months, Panagiotis Gougutoudis.

The new Athenian coach and colleague of George Diakiolakos in the Slovenian national team, knows the team well, since in the previous period with the role of technical advisor she had the time to watch our team’s training sessions and matches and has already started her preparation for the upcoming match with Panserraikos.

“It was with great pleasure that I accepted the proposal of Athinaikos to take over the technical leadership of the team and to continue the work of coach Gougutoudis, with the aim of the team being the star player in Greece, but also in Europe from the next season. Athenian’s plan to raise the level of competitiveness of Greek teams in Europe is a challenge for every coach, even more so when this happens in your country.”

Stella Kaltsidou has written her own path in Greek basketball both as an athlete and as a coach. He has competed in Galaxia Thessaloniki, Heraklis, M. Alexandros, in Glyfada, Hesperides and Olympiakos, winning four championships and seven Greek Cups within the borders.

Abroad, he competed in France, Turkey, Poland, winning titles and starring in European competitions. She completed her career in 2019, while earlier in November 2018 she had left the Greek National Team, recording a total of 217 appearances.

As a coach, she started alongside Kostas Keramidas in the men’s team of Amarousiou and then took over EFAOZ in the A1 women’s team. He worked alongside Martins Zibartz at Olympiakos in the 2021-22 season and in February 2023 took over the London Lions. He led the team to two consecutive doubles and the FIBA ​​EuroCup – the first English basketball team to achieve such success.

He was named technician of the year in M. Britain for the 2023-24 season and left after the team was disbanded for financial reasons. Along with her collective obligations, she is an associate of Tzortzis Diakiolakos in the Slovenian national team from October 2021.
