EEC: Presented a program to combat gender-based violence in sports

The Hellenic Basketball Federation presented the results of the program to combat gender-based violence in sports. The event was held at the EEC offices in OAKA and what everyone underlined was its commitment to tackling gender-based violence and discrimination in sport. The program is being conducted as part of the European Union co-funded project “Cancel Gender-Based Violence in Basket: Detecting and Tackling GBV and Discrimination in Sport”, bringing together actors from across Europe to create a safer and more inclusive sport.

The president of EEC, Vangelis Liolios, the president of KOK Andreas Mouzouridis, Annie Konstantinidou, member of the EEC Board of Directors, responsible for Women’s basketball and ambassador of EuroBasket 2025, Vassilis Dakouris, member of the EEC Board of Directors and responsible for sports integrity, spoke at the presentation. and sports values ​​and Evina Maltsi, ambassador of EuroBasket 2025.

Representatives from the National Basketball Federations of Cyprus, Bulgaria and North Macedonia, together with Universal Education and the Center for Social Innovation, participated in highlighting the achievements of the project. The project focuses on equipping basketball coaches, athletes and officials with tools to recognize and address gender-based violence, while empowering male and female athletes through cognitive behavioral therapy workshops and activities.

The Hellenic Basketball Federation presented the updated civil protection measures to detect, prevent and deal with abusive behavior, reinforcing its commitment to make basketball a safe sport for all. The speeches of the President of the Hellenic Basketball Federation and the President of the Cyprus Basketball Federation highlighted their shared commitment to the protection of athletes and the promotion of equality in sport, while the present Ambassadors of EuroBasket Women 2025 supported the importance of inclusion and respect in the basketball community. The conference closed with a unifying appeal to eliminate violence and discrimination in basketball.
