An ideal start for women and men, Panathinaikos at the Europe Trophy Regional Stage

Panathinaikos closed in an ideal way tonight 13/12, in Malta, the first day at the Europe Trophy Regional Stage. At the start of Region E and with purely Greek trios, it had two victories in the same number of matches for the women, a positive premiere for the men and took the first steps towards the top of the groups and direct qualification to the final stage of the competition.

For women there is a single group of six teams. Panathinaikos comfortably defeated two Italian clubs and already took the lead in the standings. In the men’s side the Athenian side also had an emphatic win in Group A against the Italians and continue as favourites. Panathinaikos is already one of the main protagonists in the short history of the 3rd European Team Cup, since it currently holds the men’s title and won it in 2022 for the women, and on the Mediterranean island it wants to bring out its momentum again. In the same institution, Baltais from Latvia, a team in which Tasos Riniotis made his debut, started victorious today in Estonia.

In Malta, the women of Panathinaikos had one match in the morning and one in the evening.

Also in the Europe Trophy and the Regional stage, two foreign teams with Greek internationals participate. On the men’s side, Riniotis’ Baltais got off to a winning start in Tallinn, Estonia in their only Region B group. The Latvian team easily defeated Iceland’s BH Hafinarforbar 3-0. Our champion beat Markus Ulfarsson 3-0 in his only game. Tomorrow, Baltais completes the group by facing Vilkaviskio Ritas from Lithuania (at 11:00) and Tal Tek Sport Club from Estonia (at 14:30).

On the women’s side, Papadimitriou’s Josip Kolumbo competes this weekend in Nis, Serbia for Region D. The Serbian club opens tomorrow against Onisilos Lakatamias from Cyprus (11:00 a.m. match) and continues at 5:00 p.m. against Duga Resa from Croatia at 17:00. On Sunday at 14:00 it faces Panoniza, also from Serbia.
