Super… Olympiacos beat Panathinaikos in a thriller match

Olympiacos made of “steel”, bent Panathinaikos in a terrible match in Petroupoli! The “red and white” after an amazing game with Militsa Koumboura in a sensational eveningprevailed 3-1 set of the “greens” and raised the first Super Cup in their history!

Terrible phases, plenty of spectacle and very nice “rally” in the final, with the Piraeus team taking the first set comfortably (25-16), Panathinaikos equalizing (25-21) and the Miceli players prevailing in the details in the other two (25-21, 25-22) lifting the trophy.

Apart from Koumboura, a great match for Olympiakos was played by Emmanuelidou, Nizetich and Fariolewhile on the part of Panathinaikos, Hatziefstratiadou, Metaxas and Biarda they were the ones that stood out.

The match:

Very beautiful and free volley at the beginning of the final, with Panathinaikos winning lead with two aces from Papafotiou and Olympiakos staying close with the consecutive points of the excellent Abderrahim again. In fact, the “red and white” found themselves leading by two points (15-13) for the first time in the final. Biarda kept Panathinaikos in touch with the score, but Koumboura and Abderahim brought the “red and white” to +3 (18-15). Mitseli’s team, with Emmanoulidou on the serve, Nizetich in the role of… organizer, and Abderrahim with Fariol taking crucial shots, made it 1-0 (25-16).

An explosive start from Panathinaikos in the second set with the “greens” playing a very good match above the net and finding a difference of four points immediately (5-1). The team of Yiannis Charitonidis took advantage of the stress it caused to Olympiakos by maintaining a safety margin for a long time in the second set.

Olympiacos made its own demarcation and managed to find critical points with a combined game and take advantage of the mistakes made by the “greens” by reducing to a point. But two critical block outs ended up in favor of Panathinaikos, with Charitonides’ players escaping to +3 at a critical point (19-16). Koumboura’s streak continued, Abderahim entered the equation for Olympiakos by scoring three consecutive points, of which the two aces and the “red and white” reached +5 (15-10).

Koumboura found Nizetich as a supporter in the match with Olympiakos getting away from the score, when Panathinaikos with a 4-0 run reduced to two (18-16). The match became a derby with the two teams going to differences of two and three points in favor of Olympiakos, who eventually made it 2-1 with Abderrahim’s pipe (25-21).

The perfect balance in the fourth set with Panathinaikos chasing, but responding and always equalizing Olympiakos, without however going ahead. The pattern changed with a short run that gave Panathinaikos an advantage, which was tied by Olympiakos. But the red and white team found the mental reserves and managed with an ace from Lambrousi and a huge block from Emmanouilidou to bring the match to +3 (20-17). Yannis Charitonidis, threw in the battle of Katarina Jovits, a choice that justified him, after the Serb with a great defense and a block on the unstoppable Koumboura brought the match back to the point before Grothes equalized (20-20). But a mistake by Panathinaikos, an ace by Nizetich and the missed Challenge of Charitonides, brought the match point for Olympiakos (24-20). After several missed opportunities by Panathinaikos, Abderrahim finished the match and gave Olympiakos the trophy (25-22).
