Panionios defeated Patras and still hopes for the Final Eight!

Had to wait 2.5 months for it to arrive first double!

Making an outstanding appearance, Mr Panionios was victorious over Patras and “Dimitris Tofalos”, prevailing in a match-thriller with 87-85 of Prometheus for the 11th round of the Stoiximan GBL!

A result that keeps Historian alive in the hunt for one of the top seven places in the standings, leading to Final Eight of the Greek Cupwith the Neosmyrniotes, now, rising to 5-6 and waiting for the rest of the results of the competition.

Top for the winners were Brown and Canadian with 18 points each, while Kaklamanakis also provided valuable solutions with 11 points and 9 rebounds. For the Patrinos, who fell to 6-5, the first scorers were Lountzis and Rees with 17 points.

The match:

The pace was excellent in the first quarter of the match, where the Prometheus he managed to build significant differences in the score early on, thanks to his very good attack and his high shooting percentages. With Lountzis and Karagiannidis in the foreground, Patrinoi led 14-6 in the 4th minute and shortly after with +14 for 22-8 in seven minutes! THE Panionios fought back and with points piled up in the final two minutes, it went down at 29-19 in the period.

Bazina’s 3-pointer at the start of the second quarter put the home team up 31-19, before Historikis with an offensive burst and Canadian to count 10 points, decrease to 37-35 at 16′! With the psychology at its height, and consecutive baskets by Kaklamanakis, Ray and Brown, the guests they passed at the score (44-45) three minutes later, with Reese’s final shots sending both teams to the locker room with score at 47-45.

The derby continued in third period, as neither team could escape the score and “build” a good difference. With him Williams on the one hand for Prometheus and Brown for Panionios, on the other hand, to lead the attack, the match remained closed, as a result of which the home team ended the quarter with marginal +3 and the 64-61.

Prometheus-Panionios:

The fourth and final period started with a quick 5-0 run by Kanadi and Kaklamanakis for Panioni’s 64-66. Karagiannidis tied the match, however, with a new 5-0 from Kanadi and Kaklamanakis, the guests made it 66-71 at 32′. Thanks to their good defense, the Nea Smyrni team arrived a little later up to +7 (68-75)with Prometheus coming out aggressively after half of the quarter and reducing the score to 75-79 at 38′. In fact, keeping the Historian at zero, his team Elias Papatheodorou shots by Luntzis and a layup by Reese tied it at 79-79 a minute later. A big 3-pointer by Gikas and a basket by Reese made it 81-82 at 23”, with Panionios keeping his cool at the end from the line, making it a great victory for the final 85-87!
