Board of Directors OAKA: Half-mast flag and donation of a defibrillator in memory of Margarita Economopoulos

The news has caused shock and unspeakable sadness in the field of volleyball and Greek sports in general of the death of Margarita Economopoulos, who “passed away” on Monday (12/30) at an airport in Thailand.

The administration of OAKA issued a statement, expressing its sincere and warm condolences for the sudden death of the vice-president of the Board, while announcing some actions in memory of the former volleyball player.

In detail, the announcement of the Board of Directors of OAKA:



The Board of Directors of OAKA met today in an emergency following the announcement of the death of the Vice President and member of the Board of Directors Margarita Economopoulos, to whom it is sad to say goodbye, in order to pay tribute to the man who loved sports wholeheartedly and devoted himself to worship throughout his life her. Her contribution to OAKA has been significant and multifaceted, being the link between theory and practice, supporting the needs of the sports community in practice. Honoring her memory, it unanimously decided:

a) to express the deep sorrow and sincere condolences of the President and the members of the Board of Directors to the family of the deceased

b) to fly the OAKA flag at half-mast in its premises until the day of the funeral

c) that the entire Administration attend the exit sequence

d) to lay a wreath in memory of the deceased

e) to donate a defibrillator to the Sports and Educational Association of Filoti Naxos “ZEUS”, according to the wishes of the family

f) to observe a minute’s silence at the first regular meeting of the Board of Directors and

At the end of the meeting, the President of OAKA Mrs. Ioanna Batsou said: “All the members of the Board of Directors and all the employees, we are shocked to hear the sad news about the unexpected death of Margarita Economopoulos. This is a tragic loss for all of us who knew and worked with her. A young girl, a skilled lawyer with a distinguished professional career and a person who passionately loved sports. A cheerful and good-natured colleague, with skills, passion for her work and a huge willingness to give to sports and fellow human beings. We worked together to address problems and advance solutions. He always worked with selflessness, tireless energy, and professionalism. Her knowledge of law and her love for sports have always been a stable and reliable point of reference for all of us at OAKA. We will remember her with love for all that Margarita was and for the bright smile she always had. Heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones for the sad loss.”
