THE Yannis Sfeiropoulos he has earned the respect and love of his fans Red Star. Last season, the Greek coach led to winning three titles the Belgrade team.
In an interview with the Serbian website zurnal.rs, his former coach Olympiakou talked about life in Belgradethe red and white “family”, his goals and ambitions, one day before his arrival 2025.
In detail what he said:
For Belgrade: “Belgrade is a beautiful city, but I, unfortunately, didn’t get to see much. Let’s say, I haven’t had time to visit Kalemegdan yet. I am fully committed to work and Red Star, I have very little free time. The only place that I visit very often and that is of great importance to me is the Temple of Agios Savvas. It is the largest orthodox church in the Balkans, I especially love it because of the name it bears. My father’s name was Savvas, as was my son, so this wonderful temple always evokes beautiful feelings for me and it’s a real privilege for me every time I go there.”
About his ambitions: “No one knows what the future holds. I would definitely like to stay as Red Star manager for a longer period of time, to become a… legendary manager of the club. It doesn’t just depend on me, first of all it will depend on the results, if they are good and the club management is satisfied – the fans will be happy and all parties will feel warm and beautiful feelings, so then there will be no reason to to leave I have a lot of respect for Serbian tradition, history, culture. Serbia is one of my favorite countries and I have already talked about my feelings towards Red Star. This is my club and it will always have a special place in my heart.”
For Red Star: “I always give my all and I am 100% committed to the club I lead. I don’t just mean in a professional sense, but also in a personal and emotional sense. This team, the city, the people got into my… blood and will probably stay there forever. When I mention Red Star, I often use the word “work”, but the truth is that for me it is much more than that. The people here are wonderful, they are so friendly and familiar that I feel like I have known them all my life. I feel a lot of love in Belgrade, of course, first of all from the fans of Red Star, but I have to say that I also get respect from the fans of Partizan, which I am very happy about. Partizan fans support their club of course, but they show me respect every time we meet and that’s very fair and reasonable for me.”
On how he feels about the team: “I feel everything that every true red and white fan feels at the moment. When we get a big win or when a beautiful and important moment happens for the team off the field, I am overwhelmed with warmth, happiness and the most beautiful feelings. On the other hand, when a heavy defeat comes, a failure on a sporting or human level, when the team is in trouble, it affects me greatly. I can’t sleep at night because of sadness, and when problems come, sometimes I don’t sleep for two days, I’m depressed and I think about how to solve these problems. When you put your heart and soul into a club like this, how can you not feel a part of it? When you defend those sacred colors and coat of arms? Perhaps it is the simplest to say that it is a great honor for me to be the coach of Red Star.”
