“Cleaned” Peristeri and Panionios hopes for six

Having taken a solid lead from the start of the match, Panionios defeated Peristeri 83-73 in Glyfada for matchday 13 of the Stoiximan GBL and moved to within -1 of the top six, leaving the Blue Reds one place below the effort of two teams for the best placement.

Aris Lykogiannis’ players reached +16 in the second half and were never really threatened by the “blue and yellow”.

Leading the winners were Canady with 19, Nocco with 14, Ray with 13 and Brown with 12 points. For the guests, Edi stood out with 22 and Avdalas with 14 points.

The match

Panionios took a 4-0 lead with his Americans and with Woolridge’s outbursts he reached 11-4 in the bad defense of the “blue and yellow” inside the basket. With a new 8-0 run led by Noko, the “blue and red” finished the first quarter at 19-8.

Canadi’s 3-pointers put Panionios up 12 at the start of the second period, but a 5-0 run by Giorgos Limniatis’ team cut it to 25-18. Ghika’s three-pointer maintained +9 to +10 for Neosmyrniotes and Woolridge brought +12 to the effort of the Peristeri players to play correctly in the opponent’s basket. Kaklamanakis brought +13 and Ray +14, with Avdala finishing the half at 49-37.

Panionios had 11/20 two-pointers, 7/12 three-pointers, 6/5 shots, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Peristeri had 13/22 two-pointers, 3/7 three-pointers, 2/5 shots, 13 rebounds and 12 assists.

Panionios started “furious” in the third period and with a 7-0 run in the first five minutes reached +19 with offensive versatility and supremacy in rebounds compared to the small difference in this statistic at the end of the 20 minutes. With a new 4-0 streak, Aris Lykogiannis’ players reached 60-41. Peristeri found the solutions and reduced to -13 with offensive versatility, but Canady’s three-pointer helped make it 69-55 at the end of the quarter.

Peristeri correctly put the ball in the “blue and red” basket and with an 8-0 run reduced to 71-63 in the first five minutes of the fourth period. Noko, facing a 4-0 streak, brought +12 and the hosts maintained this difference in the next two minutes. Avdalas temporarily reduced to -8 after Peristeri’s 5-0 run, but most of Panioni’s solutions brought him to +10 for the final 83-73.
