European ping pong qualifiers: Positive Authority and men with Moldova

by

In its first match and for the second match of the first group, the National Ping Pong team bent the Moldovans 3-2 after 2 hours and 20 ‘.

The representative band was well aware that with two very notable athletes the opponent could become very dangerous, but our internationals showed character in the most pressing moments and reached “by fire and iron” in the positive result. From one victory they were Sgouropoulos, Stamatouros and Angelakis, the last in the decisive game and the five sets.

Greece had a day off in the first race and began in the afternoon against the country that was in the last series of seeding for the draw, but that did not testify to its value and had to do with the low position in ranking due to the great absence of the two possible Athletes, Ursos and Putudika, from team events.

The great difficulty also turned out to be on the table, as the Moldovans won two wins from Ursu and went 2-2. There, Angelakis was found to lose 2-1 and with an impressive performance he turned the situation. Kostas Vatsaklis’ band faces Cyprus and Switzerland on Wednesday and wants to secure the top of the first phase groups and go with even better prospects at 1-16.

In the setting of the teams, Greece took B and first on the table Constantine Angelakis entered the table. Our champion faced the first Moldovan, Vladislav Ursu, who has great skills against defense. This was also done in practice with the left -handed to use his service to a large extent. Angelakis was certainly competitive in all sets, but he didn’t get anything more in the game to threaten more.

In the next match, Yiannis Sgouropoulos competed and faced the other very remarkable Moldovan, Andrei Putudika. It had a good performance standard and mostly complete concentration at critical moments to impose 3-0. Points, as in the first set, where halfway prevailed with a series of points and in the third set, which was judged in the extension.

George Stamatouros later took our national forward and did so with obvious superiority over Felix Kozmoliki. He went perfectly for the easy 2-0 set, normally lost his pace in the third set, but he “raised” speed again to close the score.

The first two athletes of the teams, Sgouropoulos and Ursu, who face from an early age and have a victory in international competitions, met in the fourth individual match. Our champion started 6-2, but received a large series of points and later lost the second set at no good pace. With improved performance he won the third set and covered a handicap in the next 7-7. And there, however, Moldavos took the last say, which made it 2-2 in the team.

At the finale, Angelakis was confronted with Putudika. Of course, there would be no relationship with their 13-year match in a European Youth Championship (Moldova had won 3-0), indicative that the first two sets went to the extension. The “golden” Balkan lasted only in the third set, but shortly thereafter showed his powerful psychology. With excellent defenses, good service and great attacks he equalized by difference, leading 6-4 and in the fifth set and with excellent management celebrated the decisive victory.

Constantinos Constantinopoulos sat on the bench on the bench.
