“Athens Kallithea FC announces the acquisition of 26 -year -old New Zealand left -back James McGarry in the form of a loan from Aberdeen by the end of the 2024/25 season.
McGarry won the A-League Australian championship with Central Coast Mariners before going to the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen, where he recorded 28 entries in the last two seasons.
Born in Duindin, New Zealand, McGarry was nominated by the Southern United local academy, and began his professional career in Australia with Wellington Phoenix, making his A-League debut at the age of 18 in January 2016.
In July 2018, McGarry went to Europe for the first time, where he joined the Dutch Willem II. During two seasons with the team, McGarry recorded six appearances with the first team in Eredivisie, and scored 28 appearances.
McGarry returned to Australia in October 2020, where he spent two more season at Wellington Phoenix, one season at Newcastle Jets, and one season at Central Coast Mariners, winning the A-League championship in 2023, counting 24 entries with 4 sides and an assist during the championship.
McGarry secured a transcript to Aberdeen in August 2023, where he recorded 17 entries in total (nine as a key) in all events in his first season with the team, including three entries (two as key) in the UEFA Conference League. He recorded seven entries (five as a key) in the league in the first half of the 2024/25 season, with Aberdeen currently in fourth place in the Scottish Premiership standings.
As an International, McGarry represented New Zealand with small national teams K17, K20, and K23, and once with the Men’s National Team in November 2019.
