Stamoulis and Kassou winners and with a record in the 5km

George Stamoulis emerged winner for the second consecutive year in the 5km race organized within the 10th Athens Half Marathon. The athlete who finished with a time of 15.23 improving not only his performance last year in the same race (15.46), but also achieving a race record. The previous record was 15.30 and was achieved by Christos Kallias in 2017.

“It is the second consecutive victory. I claimed the title again. It was a very nice event. The weather conditions were much more difficult than last year. “I have improved my personal record and now I am focusing on the open track with my coach.”

Alexandros Soukoulis (AO Pannaxiakos) finished in second place with 16.06 and Vikenzi Sebastian Thomsen from the USA with 16.03 in third place.

Regarding the women’s race, the one who stood out was Maria Kassou (AO Pannaxiakos) with a performance of 17.35, which is a race record. The previous record was 17.57 and was achieved by Anastasia Karakatsani. “This is the first time I run in this event, I have run a 5 km race in the Athens Marathon in November. Things have gone very well this year, so far. The year started with a very good performance at the indoor day, where I made an individual record, continued with a victory on the uneven road at 10 km and the culmination was the gold medal in the Balkan K20 championship, but also the Panhellenic record at 3 km indoor. “The weather today was not favorable and I had a hard time, but we were encouraged by the presence of the people,” he said after the match.

Denisa Balla finished in second place with a time of 18.05, while Zoe Andrikopoulou (AO Mykonos) took third place with a time of 19.08.

The winners were awarded by the Governor of Attica, George Patoulis, the General Secretary of SEGAS, George Giatroudakis, the head of public relations and communication of OPAP, Manolis Stavroulakis and the member of the Board of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Sofia Papadopoulou.

The women were awarded the medals by the president of SEGAS, Sofia Sakorafa, alternate member of SEGAS in EOE Xenia Argetaki and the sponsor of OPAP, Thanassis Basdekis and the president of the Hellenic Society of Sports Dentistry, Christos Rachis.
