On Tuesday, the International Table Tennis Federation released the scoreboards of week number 12 from the beginning of the year and Giannis Sgouropoulos, George Stamatouros and Malamatenia Papadimitriou had an improvement, based on the results in the Feeder tournament in Doha.
All three of our internationals took part in this men-women event. Sgouropoulos and Stamatouros participated in the WTT Contender, which is still in progress in the capital of Qatar, and the results will be calculated for the world ranking next week, while from the WTT Youth Star Contender, which was done earlier for young people, also in Doha, Papadimitriou did not benefit in the ranking of the 11th week.
In Feeder, then, Sgouropoulos entered directly into the main board of the simple and, after a victory, was placed in positions 17-32. In the men’s ranking, he rose to number 154 from 156 in the 11th week.
Stamatouros was eliminated in the second qualifying round at the same Open and in the ranking “won” eight places, going to number 581 from 589.
Papadimitriou also stopped in the second qualifying round and moved to the women’s table at number 600 from 607 last week.
In terms of points, the last two Greek men’s singles champions had little benefit, as did the current Greek women’s doubles champion, which is to be expected, however, because the rating system requires an athlete to go several rounds.
Thus, Sgouropoulos reached 600 points from 592 in the 11th week. Stamatouros is at 87 out of 85 and Papadimitriou at 66 points out of 64.
In the ongoing Contender, Sgouropoulos, who has long been the second Greek in the world ranking, advanced three qualifying rounds and is waiting to collect more points. Stamatouros, who was eliminated in the second qualifying round of the same tournament, will probably show more points.
