Rio de Janeiro court ordered the removal of Brazilian Football Federation (CBF), president of Brazilian Football Federation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodriguezas well as the entire Board of Directors of the Federation.
In place it was temporarily appointed Fernando Sarneyone of the Vice -Presidents of the CBF and the man, who had requested judicial intervention. Sarnei assumed duties with the aim of holding an election “as soon as possible”.
The case concerns the complaint for Former CBF’s signature falsification, Antonio Carlos Nounes de Limain an agreement signed with Rodriguez earlier in the year. This agreement paved the way for Rodriguez’s re -election by 2030.
In his ruling, Judge Gabriel de Oliveira Zefiro reported that the defense of Nounes cited serious health problems who did not allow him to attend the court, noting that his spiritual capacity is already challenged in 2018, when he was diagnosed with brain cancer.
‘I declare the agreement between the parties, which had previously been approved by the Supreme Court, due to intellectual impotence and possible forgery of the signature of Antonio Carlos Nounes de Lima“, Stated in the decision.
‘Therefore, the logical consequence is the recognition of the non -legality of today’s CBF administration. The Federation cannot remain headless and it is imperative to hold legal elections, in accordance with applicable law“, The judge added.
It is worth noting that is not the first time Rodriguez loses his position. In December 2023 he had been removed again by a ruling by the Rio Court, amid a dispute over the process of being elected to the Federation. In January 2024, however, Brazil’s Minister of Justice, Jilmar Mentes, had ordered his return, citing the danger of the FIFA national team excluding the national team.
FIFA, however, did not then proceed with sanctions, although the government’s intervention was contrary to its fixed position against political mixing in football.
Rodriguez’s new removal comes just three days after announcement of Italian technician Carlo Ancelotti in the technical leadership of the Brazilian national team, in view of the journey to the 2026 World Cup.
