Doni: “Mars gave me a great opportunity – I want to justify it”

-How easy or difficult was it for you to make the decision to return to Greece?

“It was a pretty easy decision for me. I’m a good age, Mars gave me this opportunity. It’s a great team with high goals this year. I am very happy to be here and I want to help the team as much as I can. ”

-There is an attempt on Mars to strengthen the Greek element. How important is this for a group?

“It’s very important. Mars has not had many Greeks in the roster in recent years. This year, we are seeing many coming. We are already 3-4 new ones and, as far as I know, others may come. Greek players are aware of the mentality of the club. We know what Mars means and I think it is important to have Greeks in the roster so that they can help strangers better adapt. ”

-Did Marin Ouzounidis play a role in your decision?

“Yes, he played an important role. We spoke personally, but he also had contact with my father, with whom they have very good relationships. He showed me that he believes me and trusts me and I want to justify him. ”

-What did your father tell you before signing Mars?

“He told me that it is a good opportunity for me to show what a player I am in Greek football. Mars is a great team, with high goals, and he thinks I’m at an ideal age to take this step. ”

-How is your situation after the injury to APOEL? When will you be 100%ready?

“I was playing in APOEL, but in mid -February I had a knee injury. Restoration lasted 3-4 months. Because the team had no special goals at the end of the season, we decided to go conservatively. I now train with Mars, we just don’t want to risk it unnecessarily. There is a chance that I will fight in Anorthosis friendly, while in the first official game the goal is to be on the mission. ”

-Many Mars players, like you, have performances from major European leagues. Do you think there is common sense in transcriptions?

“I don’t know if there is such a plan, but we see that there are players with experience of big leagues like the Bundesliga and La Liga. It is important to have such performances, but in football it does not count what you have done in the past. We all start from scratch and have to prove our value again. ”

-Was it the right choice for you to leave early abroad?

“Yes, I think it was the right choice. When you are given such an opportunity, you have to take advantage of it. Abroad, the Greek player does not have the pressure here. In Greece, Greek footballers are often treated more strictly. I know the pressure that exists and I’m ready. If you take advantage of it properly, it can strengthen you. ”

-Is the National Team in your mind?

“I have been a member of the National for years. Lately I have not been called, something reasonable because of injuries. All players want to compete with the coat of arms. It’s a great honor. I have it in my mind, but right now my priority is to play well on Mars. Through my appearances, I hope the call comes again. ”

-What positions do you prefer to fight?

“I can play in all four positions of the attack, but I think I’m better at the edges, right or left. If needed, I can play both or behind the striker, but my natural positions are extremist. ”

-What differences are located from country to country in your career?

“In Italy, where I was in academies and the first team, football is more regular, especially for defenders. In Germany, I matched a lot – there were spaces, which helped me with speed. Nevertheless, the most difficult championship for me was French. It’s very Physical, everyone is fast and athletic. In Germany I stood out for speed, but in France things were more demanding. “
