“Massively coming out by gay players, many have false weddings and girls”

THE Marcus Urbana former German footballer and first in his country who spoke openly about his sexuality, made statements that cause discussions about the reality experienced by many professional footballers.

According to Urban, many players choose to hide their true identity, concluding virtual relationships or even “fake marriages” in order to avoid the exhibition. As he said, there are even organized offices that arrange such situations, enhancing the concealment effort.

He also revealed that in May 2024 a table had been put on the table one Massive Coming Out Plan by LOATKI+ Community footballers. This initiative, however, did not go ahead, as several athletes eventually chose not to participate, fearing the consequences for their career and image.

“There were players who wanted to talk but in the end no one did it”admitted Urban. As he explained, the pressures from the close environment of the players, such as family, legal or advisers, worked as a deterrent, as they were conveyed fears and concerns related to their reputation and financial interests.
