George Nikolaou takes over the “reins” of the AEK men’s team this season. The Amateur Union has announced the recruitment of the experienced technician, who will be in charge of the Department of Adolescents and the Academy of the Association.

In recent years, Nicholas has been at the Academies of Chaidari and Petersburg.

In detail, the announcement:

“AEK is pleased to announce the launch of its partnership with George Nikolaou, who takes over the technical leadership of the Polo Men’s Team, as well as the Association’s Teenage Department.

George Nikolaou is one of the most experienced and active water polo coaches. He began his coaching career in 1983 by the Panathinaikos academies, while at the same time having a men’s team. Until 1991 he worked in the Youth and Adolescent Departments, winning first places in Pan -Hellenic Championships. In 1992 he took over the technical leadership of the Panathinaikos men’s team, making a radical renewal to create a new generation that fought in the coming years at the top level.

It was followed by the Athens National, where he highlighted athletes who staffed our national team in the coming years. In 1999 he took over Nirea Halandriou, leading him to the A2 national category. In the six years 2000-2006, he led Triton Amarousiou to the A2 national category with successive rises. At the same time, it led the teenage team to win the Panhellenic Championship.

In the six years 2006-2012 he sat on the bench of Nirea Gerakas, bringing the team to the Second National. He was then found on the bench of NO Kalamata, while in the four-year period 2014-2018, he developed the Dolphin Transfiguration Group from zero, raising the men’s team three categories and ‘building’ a potential academy of more than 50 children.

In 2018 he took over the technical leadership of the Children and Teenage Department of Ionian Nice, while in the midst of a quarantine, he developed the teams of AEK academies. In recent years he was in Petersburg and SA Chaidari, where he successfully created youthful and competitive sets.

Now, it comes to the AEK family with the aim of creating a team that will consist of athletes coming from the club’s infrastructure, aiming at racing, talent and building a future with stability and duration.

George Nikolaou told aek.gr: “After many years of experience in clubs in all categories, I return to AEK with the aim of ‘building’ a male ensemble from the beginning through our academies. My philosophy is simple: discipline, morality and hard work. I want our athletes to feel that they have a perspective within the club itself and, step by step, to reach as high as we can. ”

George, welcome to AEK’s family again. “
