by

The basketball rivalry Greece-Turkey It counts almost a century of life, full of moments, historical clashes and emotional peaks. The two groups have been faced 67 wearwith Greece having the upper hand with 44 wins over Turkey 23.

Their first meeting was written at June 25, 1936 in Constantinople, with Turkey 49-12. It was the first official race in the history of our national team, coaching Mike Stergiadis and players such as Angels, Skilogiannis and Amarantides to write the first lines of the Greek basketball book.

Since then, the two countries have met friendly, qualifying and final stages, but few matches have had the drama of the Eurobasket 2009 quarter -finals in Poland. Greece, with leader Vasilis Spanoulisprevailed 76-74 in the extension, in a race that remained in history. Spanoulis was unstoppable with 23 points and 6/9 three -pointerswhile Zisis, Fotsis and Bouroussi ideally complemented the four of the protagonists.

That victory paved the way for the bronze medal, with Greece dominating Slovenia in the small final. It was one of the most glorious moments in the modern history of National, and another proof that when Greece finds rhythm, it can write history.
