Vettel: “If it does not become ‘green’, Formula 1 will disappear – The current regulations are useless”!

by

The alarm bell rang Sebastian Vettel!

Known for his sensitivity to environmental protection and his green actions against climate change, he stressed that Formula 1 must change, otherwise it will disappear!

Her German guide Aston Martin was openly opposed to Formula 1 plans regarding its green tactics and the environmentally friendly engines of today and tomorrow.

Speaking to reporters as part of the Turkish GP, Vettel said: «It’s pretty weird, because Formula 1 is not green. We live in an age where there are innovations and several ways to make Formula 1 green, without losing the spectacle, the excitement, the speed, the challenge and our passion. We have so many brilliant engineers, which can find many solutions. But the current regulations, despite the fact that we have very efficient engines, are useless. It is not a technology that you will buy for the road when you decide to buy a car. What is the correlation? I think there are some solutions that some talk about the future of the sport in terms of regulations, which would be more related to the car. If these changes do not come, I am not very optimistic. If the changes are not implemented, then Formula 1 will disappear. And it will probably be for the better. We know we have made mistakes and we must not repeat them».

He also referred to synthetic fuels, emphasizing: «I’m not a fuel expert, but I’m a bigger fan of synthetic fuels than biofuels. It’s perfectly right for Formula 1 to look for ways to adopt alternative and synthetic fuels. But for now we will only have 10% e-fuels on engines by 2022, which technologically it is not an innovation. You can already buy this fuel for many years. This does not meet the expectations of Formula 1, which wants to be a champion. We just react to developments instead of leading. The engines will be frozen for years to come and that means zero progress. This will bring the sport under tremendous pressure, because the next 5 years will change a lot in the world».
