by

The taxi drivers are going on a general strike Barcelona next Tuesday, match day Barcelona-Olympic.

This is a decision by the union, which comes as a sign of protest over its sponsorship deal Barcelona with the company Uber. The strike will last from 17:00 to 22:00 and is expected to block access to both the stadium and the club’s offices, with two phalanxes of taxis heading separately to the points.

The union is also planning a mass demonstration to coincide with the Blaugrana’s match with Olympic in “Montjuic” for the 3rd matchday of the League Phase of the Champions League.

“We tried to reach an agreement – albeit an informal one – to organize taxi lanes and avoid abusive charges, but we got nowhere. Now they have chosen Uber just for the money”said union representative Tito Alvarez.

THE Alvares warned that protests would continue at all La Liga and Champions League matches until its president Barcelona, Joan Laportato “reconsider his decision”.

During the strike, taxis will not operate in the metropolitan area. Unique exceptions for people heading to hospitals and those with reduced mobility.

Her deal Barcelona will make ‘Uber’ an official partner of the club, with unveilings scheduled at Spotify Camp Nou in the coming days. The presentation will be attended by Pau Coumbarsi, the club’s managing director Manel del Rio and the director of Uber Spain and Portugal, Felipe Fernández Araburú.
