Savvidis: “I don’t plan to return to Rostov, but if they want my help I won’t say no”

by

Journalist Ivan Karpov said that Ivan Savvidis is going to take control of it Rostovin which he was president for the three years 2002-2005.

The powerful man of PAOK has given an interview to the website Gorod which has not yet been published. Nevertheless, after the publication in question, the specific Media published a passage in which it refers to Rostov the Mr. Savvidis.

“You know, I live next to the stadium and I hear what’s going on in the stands when I go out for a walk. If there is silence, it means something is wrong. If they shout loudly, it means they scored. It’s like I’m there. I can’t see it, but I can hear everything, literally, from across the street. And I always think, especially when there is a match: what is the goal of the club? To finish in the top ten? If we tell the taxpayers to pay, then we should set high targets.

I don’t know the story inside out, I don’t know everything. But it is clear that any involvement of Savvidis in the management of the club will cause some discomfort. So I don’t know if it is necessary. At least, I’m not willing to. I don’t intend to return to Rostov, but if the governor thinks he needs my help, I won’t say no. I respect him, as I respected his father. We came from the same management background; let’s just say we were always interested in the issue of social responsibility.

I believe that if the club is really struggling so much, then we, the business people, need to help. Someone may have 100 rubles, someone a thousand, someone a million. I haven’t been on the field for a long time. They told me I had to help the club. “Can you buy a box?” I said yes. The amount they offered surprised me, but I bought one. I’ve never been there myself. And, honestly, I never really wanted to go. I let my managers go their own way. We will definitely have to take some steps to bring joy to the city and the huge fan base that loves the colors of the club. And it doesn’t matter if the fans misunderstood me or if I misunderstood them.

It doesn’t matter. Each book has many pages; if you remove some of them, you will destroy the whole picture. So many may think that my Don’s football story was a negative one. But if there are those who think that Savvidis did what he had to do and did it right, I will be happy. I repeat: I do not intend to return to Rostov. But if I have to save the club, I will do what I did under Golubev (former governor of the Rostov Region, Vasily Golubev). I’ll give them money and maybe participate in some of the decisions.”
