A storm for Panathinaikos, they lost hands down to Monaco

Panathinaikos AKTOR did not learn his… lesson and continued with an easy defeat. His team Ergin Ataman lost comfortably with a score of 92-84 to Monaco in “Gaston Medicin” and fell to 5-3 in the Euroleague, with the Monegasques climbing to the same record, winning over both Greek teams in the “devil’s week”.

The “greens” never managed to bring out on the floor the defensive intensity they showed in the last quarter with the Maccabias a result of which they are behind the score for almost the entire duration of the match. Apart from very short intervals, they didn’t look competitive at all, with Monaco going as far as +21 (85-64).

Leader of the winners with 13 points and 8 assists was Mike Jameswhile 15 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists were scored by Eli Okobo. 12 points were scored by Mathieu Strazel and from 11 counted the Jaron Blossomgame and Nemanja Nedovic.

On the part of Panathinaikos, another good performance at this particular stadium was made by Kendrick Nunnwho scored 26 points, while 14 was scored by Kostas Sloukas and 13 o Juancho Hernangomet. None of the others were able to help.

In the next matchday, Panathinaikos will play away with him Red Star (5/11, 21:00).

The match

The game started with back-to-back attacks by Monaco, which culminated in a three-pointer by Strazel to make it 3-0. Panathinaikos’ first basket came with Yurtseven’s follow-up (3-2), while Grant scored 3-4 from mid-range. Diallo responded with an easy layup (5-4), while o Blossomgame scored the same way for 7-4. THE Strazel took shots in the surprise and put them in (9-4), with Hernangometh making the visitors’ first three-pointer for 9-7. Nan scored his first basket in the match (11-10), while Mitoglou and Nan gave the lead to the “greens” (13-14). Diallo answered with a three-pointer (16-14), with Hayes and Okobo scoring unmolested on the racket for 20-14. THE Hernangomet made his second 3-pointer (22-17), with Mirotic making shots for 24-17. Nunn scored for three from the corner (24-20), with Nedovic answering for a 27-20 first quarter lead.

The second period started with a steal and basket by Hernangometh (27-22), who then made two shots for 27-24. Okobo responded in kind (29-24), with Nedovic and Mitoglou scoring easy baskets for 31-26. James hit back-to-back crazy baskets (35-28), continuing his streak and bringing the lead to 9 by himself (41-32). Tice’s shots formed the first double-digit difference of the game (43-32), while that of James brought the score to 44-32. Theis scored impressively (46-32), with Sluka answering with a layup for 46-34. The captain of Panathinaikos gave a solution with a three-pointer (47-37), with Blossomgame to answer for 50-37. Slukas hit a layup, while Nunn nailed a buzzer beater to make it 50-41 at halftime.

The second half started with a difficult basket by Nan (50-43), before Grant scored from close range to make it 50-45. Juancho scored by taking the free throw after an improbable phase (50-48), with James giving Monaco a breather by scoring 52-48 with a difficult shot. Nan reduced again with a mid-range shot (52-50), before o Blossomgame answered with a layup for 54-50. Diallo and Okobo increased the gap again for Monaco with a nail and a three-pointer (59-53), before the latter wrote with a layup to make it 61-53. The hosts continued their good run with a spike by Blossomgame and a hook by Hayes, taking a 12-point lead (65-53). THE Mitoglou gave an important solution (65-55), before Yurtseven made a shot for 65-56. The Turk reduced with a double attempt from close range (65-58), with the Nedovic to win shots and put one in for 66-58. The Serbian layup made it 68-58 in the third quarter.

In the fourth period, Osman and Nan scored to cut it to 70-62. However, a 3-pointer by Mirotic and a basket by Hayes made it 75-62 for the home team. Nan gave Panathinaikos a breather (75-64), with Mirotic answering with shots for 77-64. Nedovic increased the difference even more with a three-pointer (80-64), with Strazel and Okobo to throw the French lead over 20 points (87-66), making the final minutes procedural. Nunn closed the gap with a 3-pointer (87-71), before hitting a two-pointer to make it 87-73. THE Thais scored emphatically (89-73), with Nan playing… alone for Panathinaikos and writing 89-75. Strazel continued his excellent game with a long shot (91-75), with Sluka cutting the gap to 12 with back-to-back points (91-79). Osman extended the home team’s lead to single digits with a three-pointer (91-82) with a few procedural seconds remaining and Monaco taking an easy victory.
