The Red Cross vigilant guard of the PPC Cycling Tour of Greece

The PPC Cycling Tour of Greece goes hand in hand with the Red Cross and its valuable volunteers.

This extremely demanding event, which is evolving in 5 regional communities and dozens of Municipalities, will be accompanied by the people of the Red Cross on each of its pedals!

The Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, inspirer of the revival of the PPC Cycling Tour of Greece after 10 years, visited this morning the offices of the Red Cross, in a gesture of practical support but also to express gratitude to the leadership and its members.

The president of the Red Cross, Dr. Antonios Avgerinos, offered the deputy minister a souvenir from the Benaki Museum as well as a rare collection of photographs of the actions of the Red Cross from the Second World War.

The Undersecretary thanked warmly and, among other things, stressed:

“I was in the central administration of the Red Cross to thank the president Dr. Antonios Avgerinos, the administration, the employees and the hundreds of volunteers both in our country and abroad. This is the least we can do as the Ministry of Sports: to publicly recognize your rich action, your important work, your great contribution to Greek society. A huge thank you for your contribution to the tested people of Ukraine, but also for all the actions prepared and implemented by the Ministry.

Sports serve democracy, solidarity, freedom, discipline, good fighting, which you do in your own way.

We can only not move in parallel! We came close to a memorandum that we signed, between the Ministry of Sports, our own family, with the huge family of the Red Cross.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart and I can not help but notice your contribution to the successful organization of the Acropolis Rally last September.

You are always present whenever we need you. The Red Cross is always by our side. I single out the PPC Cycling Tour of Greece, a demanding project with an extremely difficult business plan, but it did not scare you!

And I am sure that everything will go well in the conduct of this great sporting event.

The PPC cycling tour starts on 25/4 in Agios Nikolaos and continues on 26/4 with the presentation of the teams in Heraklion to start the first stage on 27/4 from Heraklion, Messara, Rethymno and finish in Chania. It continues in Athens and OAKA and follows Itea, Delphi, the whole Thessalian plain ending in the beautiful Ioannina.

Everywhere the red of the Red Cross will be there! She is There with a smile and incredible inexhaustible energy: humanity, love, support.

This is what we want to pass on to the Greek citizens. What the Red Cross serves and we as a state promote with the institutionalization of the Register of Volunteers, so that all those who now offer voluntarily are recognized.

Mr. Avgerinos in his turn stressed: “I would like to say to Mr. Avgenakis that our country needs such politicians, capable and effective. The Red Cross was drafted from the first moment with the Ministry of Sports in all its actions and is now enlisted in the PPC Cycling Tour of Greece. We have found in the face of Mr. Avgenakis the imprint of the man who is capable of promoting our goals and promoting our actions. The strengthening of the voluntary current in our country needs movements like yours ”

Also present at the meeting was the general secretary of the Red Cross, George Skoumas, while at the end of the meeting Mr. Avgenakis had the opportunity to speak with students from the Primary School of Psychiko, Play School, who had gone to the organization’s offices to deliver material gathered by students to help refugees in Ukraine.
