A paratrooper died and another disappeared after a jump in Manaus this Friday (15). They were part of a group of paratroopers who were surprised by a storm after jumping from an aircraft in an area near the Rio Negro.
According to the Amazonas Fire Department, the woman’s body was found around 6:40 am this Saturday (16) on the riverbank, in the municipality of Iranduba (AM). The search for the missing man is being carried out with the support of divers and an aircraft.
Four of the 14 paratroopers in the group were diverted from their original route by the wind. Two of them were rescued in the west of Manaus and the other two fell into the river.
The names of the victims were not released by firefighters. To TV Globo, the legal director of Aeroclube do Amazonas, Eliane Melo, said that the woman is called Ana Carolina Silva and was a businesswoman from Carauari (AM). According to Melo, she had been skydiving for a year and had already jumped more than 30 times.
The missing man, according to Melo, is Luiz Henrique Cardelli, a lawyer born in Paraná. He was a paratrooper while in the military and had great experience in the sport. “He is physically well prepared, so we have high hopes of finding him alive,” said Melo.
