The impressive performances of Greek athletes continue at the 2022 World Junior Weightlifting Championships held in Heraklion, Crete. During the 6th day of the event, the individual records dominated.
Erik Hopsonidis and Manolis Damoulakis participated in the third group in the 89 kg category, “broke” and improved their individual records. Hopsonidis, the 19-year-old athlete of Yperion Toumpa, lifted 113 kg in the snatch, surpassing his best official performance (he was at 111 kg) and went even better in the epole zete, as in his first attempt he lifted 148 kg setting a new individual record and then lifted 152 and further improved his individual record. The young athlete with 265k. in total he set a new individual record (he was at 256k).
On the same wavelength was the competitive presence of Manolis Damoulakis lifting 120 kg in his second attempt in the snatch, creating a new individual record (he was at 115k) and improved it even more in his third attempt lifting 124k. The athlete of Atlas Kallithea was excellent in epole zete, after in his 2nd attempt he lifted 145 making a new individual record and a little later he lifted 151 kg, improving his performance. The 20-year-old weightlifter completed his obligations at the World Junior Championship with 275 kg in total, creating a new individual record since the previous one was at 255!
The presence of Maria Papadopoulou in the first group in the category of 76 kg was also awesome, as she created a new individual record by lifting 70 kg in the snatch (she was at 69 kg), but so much in the epole zete with 81 kg (the previous one was at 80) , but also made a better official performance in the total with 151 kg (he was at 149k).
Today (8/5) Costas Klothakis will compete at 10:30 in the 96 kg category.
