The player Edenilson, from Internacional, accused the side Rafael Ramos, from Corinthians, of having made a racist offense during a game between the teams this Saturday (14), in Beira-Rio, for the Brazilian Championship.
The game came to a standstill for about five minutes, from the 30th minute of the final stage, after the moment when Edenilson went to the referee to report what had happened.
According to reporter Victor La Regina, from the Premiere channel, the side Renê told VÃtor Pereira, coach of Corinthians, that the alvinegro player made a racist offense: “He [Rafael Ramos] called EdenÃlson a monkey”, said the Colorado athlete.
After the match, the players of the gaucho team left the field without giving interviews. Jô, a striker for the São Paulo team, confirmed the accusation. “He [Edenilson] accused Rafa of racism, and Rafa said he didn’t say [a palavra macaco], said it was another Portuguese word from Portugal. We can’t accuse someone without being sure.”
About 40 minutes after the match, the football director of Corinthians, Roberto de Andrade, said that the player from the alvinegro team went to Inter’s locker room and talked to Edenilson. According to the manager, the Portuguese said he had said “bro, fuck” and that the athlete from the gaucho club would have misunderstood.
“He [Edenilson] understood something else, so it gave all this fact. He [Rafael] apologized if he had understood something else”, added the top hat. Roberto also said that the athletes had understood each other.
In a note, however, Internacional reaffirmed the accusation of racism. “Once again, an unfortunate case of racism is recorded in our football. This time, at our home, against an Inter player. In this Saturday’s match, for the Brasileirão, Edenilson reports having suffered racial abuse by Rafael Ramos, athlete of Corinthians”, wrote the club.
Minutes after the release of the statement, the vice president of Internacional, EmÃlio Papaléo, said that the club will give full support to Edenilson.
“The truth is that we believe in our athlete, we sympathize with him and, as a club, as an institution, we are supporting Edenilson in any attitude he wants to take”, he said.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw. The hosts were ahead on the scoreboard twice, with goals from Alan Patrick and Wanderson, but the visitors sought equality with Raul Gustavo and Jô.
