Opinion – Sandro Macedo: There is more drama, tragedy and betrayal in Flamengo than in Shakespearean work

by

Only Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot or the Detectives from the Blue Building can find out what’s going on in Flamengo. There is more drama, tragedy and betrayal in the Rio team than in Shakespearean work. And the worst thing is that now it seems that even Professor Paulo Sousa (red-black technician until the 20th) is looking for scabies to scratch himself… Or he’s wanting to dig the grave.

On days that should have been peaceful, after a quiet victory in Libertadores against Universidad Católica, the news is again about an internal crisis, this time involving the goalkeeper(s).

Hugo, the young starter, has been criticized for repeated failures and even deleted an account on a social network after being crucified for the 1-0 defeat against Botafogo. Santos, newly signed at the request of Paulo Sousa, is injured . And then there’s Diego Alves, who isn’t exactly a passion flower, he has a pubic injury and is also in no condition to play.

So, Professor Paulo decided to bring the matter up in a press conference. When answering a question, he suggested that Diego Alves asked to play, even without having trained during the week, and said that things with him, Paulo, are not like that. Read: threw the goalkeeper in the frying pan.

Problem: Diego Alves denied the teacher, said he never asked to play and that he would have reported just the opposite to a manager, who was not in the least able to act because of pubic pain.

The stir would have generated a kind of confrontation this Thursday (19) between goalkeeper, coach, club doctor and manager —Bruno Spindel, also quoted in the press conference. We don’t know about the survivors. But professor Paulo could have been without this one before a game that gains even more importance, at home, against Goiás.

And there’s an old aggravating factor, Diego Alves had his contract renewed by the Flamengo board after Paulo’s arrival, even with the professor making it clear that he has no intention of using him on the team — so much so that he asked for Santos to be hired. Maybe there’s an Othello on the red-black board.

It is not the first time that Diego Alves has been involved in controversy at Flamengo. In the pre-Jorge Jesus phase, he clashed with Dorival Júnior, who removed him from the team – he only established himself as a starter after the arrival of JJ.

All this happens on the eve of Jesus Day, or May 20, the date on which the mister said he would be waiting for Flamengo. And it is possible that, without contact with the red-black, JJ will close with the Turkish Fenerbahçe this week (maybe on the 21st).

And, to help Paulo Sousa sleep at night, Carlos Carvalhal, another Portuguese who has already been scouted by Flamengo, is free, light and loose in the square. He left Braga after the end of the Portuguese. Someone at Netflix or Globoplay needs to immediately make a series with this season of Flamengo. Emotions guaranteed.

Update – Round 38

Cuiabá had fired its coach last week after being eliminated in the Copa do Brasil by Atlético-GO. In total solidarity with the club from Mato Grosso, Atlético-GO fired its coach as well – and has already signed Jorginho. So, we now have seven dismissals, before the conclusion of round 7. Dismissed: Brazilians 6 x 1 Foreigners. Survivors: Brazilians 6 x 8 Foreigners.
