NASA’s Mars Helicopter hit another milestone and sent back photos to commemorate the event.
Ingenuity Mars Helicopter completed the last flight of a helicopter that flew faster than ever.
Ingenuity’s black and white navigation camera released a spectacular video of its 25th flight on April 8.
With a flight distance of 704 meters at 19 km/h, it is considered the longest and fastest flight of a helicopter.

The first shot of the video clip begins approximately 1 second after the flight. After reaching a height of 10 meters, the helicopter heads to the southwest and accelerates to maximum speed in 3 seconds.
The helicopter first blows up a swarm of sand waves, and in the middle of the video, some rocks can be seen before landing on flat ground.
The 161.3 second flight video has been multiplied by five and reduced to less than 35 seconds.
The navigation camera is programmed to turn off when the rotor is within 1 meter of the surface. “This helps prevent dust emitted during takeoff and landing from interfering with the navigation system when monitoring field functions,” NASA said in a statement.
The flight of the device is autonomous since the “pilots” who return to JPL plan them, send orders to the Perseverance Mars Rover and the Perseverance Mars Rover sends those orders to the helicopter.
In-flight sensors provide real-time information to Ingenuity’s navigation processor and the main flight computer that controls the helicopter in flight. This allows Ingenuity to respond to the landscape as it executes the command.
Mission controller recently lost contact with Ingenuity after the helicopter went into low power mode. The team is looking forward to their next flight to Mars as the helicopter is still in contact.
In April, Ingenuity took several photos showing the parachute that helped the Perseverance Rover land on Mars and the conical rear shell that protects the rover in deep space.
Ingenuity made its first flight to Mars last year, after a steep descent to the surface of Mars. The ship is currently preparing for its 29th flight.
