Amazon set a temporary purchase limit of three units of emergency contraception on Tuesday.

The move came a few days after the United States Supreme Court reversed the 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed the right to abortion.

A court ruling has temporarily increased demand for an over-the-counter emergency contraceptive drug known as Plan B, which is taken within days of intercourse.

The listing for Plan B, a popular brand of the drug levonorgestrel, showed purchases were limited to three products per order. On the other hand, in another list of generic versions called My Choice, users could purchase 30 units.

Pills are not a viable option for those seeking emergency contraception due to significant delays in delivery times. The earliest delivery time for Plan B indicated a lead time of at least 10 days. This means that it will only be useful if it is in stock.

Like most emergency contraceptives, Plan B must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse or contraception. “The sooner you get it, the better it will work,” says the Amazon listing.

Women seeking an abortion in the United States may need to travel to other states where procedures are legally available, purchase abortion medications online, or perform potentially dangerous and illegal abortions.

On Tuesday, US pharmacy network CVS announced it was in the process of lifting purchase restrictions within the next 24 hours, previously introduced in Roe v. Wade. After an appeal against Wade.

Walgreens, a UK-Swiss drugmaker, said there are currently no restrictions on buying Plan B drugs.

Last week, the Supreme Court overturned the groundbreaking decision in Roe v. Wade, ending half a century of guaranteed abortion rights in the United States.
