Google is rolling out eco-driving modes on maps for the UK and up to 40 other European countries.

This feature allows users to set “fuel efficiency” as a priority in their phone’s maps app.

Google Maps typically presents users with multiple route options, often automatically choosing the fastest route.

Eco mode allows users to change the default settings to automatically provide the most fuel efficient options.

To use this feature, the user must open the app’s root settings menu and select[燃費の良いルートを優先]to select the motor type.

This is important because different types of machines work better in different situations. Diesel engines may be faster and more efficient, but electric vehicles are more efficient in stop-start city traffic.

The map will still show the same route options, but the preferred option (highlighted in blue) will be the route that offers the most fuel efficiency, even if it is not the shortest travel time.

The feature, which will be available in the US and Canada starting in 2021, has saved about half a million tons of carbon emissions, according to the company.

“This is the equivalent of taking 100,000 fuel-powered vehicles off the road,” said Rubén Lozano-Aguilera, product manager for Google Maps, in a blog post.

This new feature relates to judgments from the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory and data from the European Environment Agency that powers Google Maps trends.

It was used to train an “advanced machine learning model” that considers the most popular engines in various places.

The company said the eco mode is part of a broader effort to help consumers live more sustainably.

Last October, the company announced that it was rolling out projects across all of its services, from improving the Nest Energy service to adding carbon emissions data to Google Flights.

He also said he would prioritize information from “authoritative sources” such as the United Nations when users search for “climate change” online.
