Microsoft will invest $10 billion in OpenAI, which owns ChatGPT artificial intelligence software, valuing the San Francisco-based company at $29 billion, Semafor reported, citing two sources with knowledge of the matter.

Microsoft had no comment on the matter and OpenAI had no comment.

OpenAI, founded by Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk and investor Sam Altman, made ChatGPT chatbot available for free public testing on Nov.

A chatbot is software designed to mimic a human conversation based on user requests.

Semafor said the funding terms call for Microsoft to own 75% of OpenAI’s profits until it recovers its initial investment once the company figures out how to make money from ChatGPT and other products such as the Dall-E imaging tool.

Upon reaching that threshold, Microsoft would have a 49% stake in OpenAI, with other investors taking another 49% and OpenAI’s non-profit parent taking 2%, the report said, without clarifying what the stakes would be until Microsoft recovers. your investment.

Microsoft, which invested $1 billion in OpenAI in 2019, is working to launch a version of its Bing search engine using the artificial intelligence behind ChatGPT, Information reported last week.
