The distribution of 8,613 robotics kits to 1,821 schools in the country is foreseen by a contract signed between the Municipality of Trikkaia, EETAA (Hellenic Society for Local Development and Self-Government) and Cosmote.

The project, with a budget of 1,821,000 euros, is entitled “Small Revolution in education: We highlight the digital skills of the Greeks of Tomorrow…” and concerns the training of students in robotics, engineering and programming.

The contract provides for the provision of 8,613 robotics kits in the next quarter to 1,821 schools (1,050 from Primary Education, 771 from Secondary and all Special Schools).

It is estimated that the initiative concerns approx 50,000 students and 4,200 teachers.

The program is an initiative of the Municipality of Trikala that was proposed during the visit of the president of the Greece 2021 Committee, Gianna Angelopoulou-Daskalaki, to Trikala in June 2020.

Collaboration followed to specify the objectives, the program was submitted to the program “Antonis Tritsis”, EETAA implemented the relevant tender procedures and the contractor company Cosmote starts the supply and distribution of the robotics kits.

In statements after the signing of the contract, the Deputy Minister of Education, Zetta Makri pointed out that it is an action complementary to the Ministry of Education, which, “with the National Reconstruction and Development Plan has secured 30 million euros for 177,000 robotics kits in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools».

The mayor of Trikkaia and president of KEDE, Dimitris Papastergiou, emphasized that “Greece is changing the era” with the initiative that “began to bring a different way of thinking and education to schools in all the municipalities of the country”.

The managing director of EETAA, Spyridon Spyridon, spoke of “an innovative way of approaching the new era through technology”.

The president of EETAA, Dimitris Maravelias, emphasized that EETAA is the scientific advisor of the Local Government, helping to complete the relevant procedures for the implementation of the program and thanked Cosmote as the contractor company, pointing out that “our children are taking a step towards digitization and new technologies».

For his part, Spyros Giamas, ICT sales leader of Cosmote, spoke of “laudable initiative, enabling learning conditions to be improved and students to be better prepared for the future».
