Mark Hamill Pays Tribute to Carrie Fisher: ‘Our Princess’

American actor Mark Hamill, 70, known for playing Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” film saga, paid tribute to Carrie Fisher on the four-year anniversary of the death of the actress who played Princess Leia in the movies.

“In loving memory of our princess, Carrie Fisher”, wrote the veteran in the caption of the publication made this Monday (27). Fisher died in 2016, she was 60 years old and had a heart attack during a flight between London and Los Angeles and was hospitalized in serious condition as soon as the plane landed, but she could not resist and died.

In 2019, Vanity Fair magazine followed the filming of “Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker” in a Jordanian desert filled with green screens (used to create special effects). The film was a sequel to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015), by the same director.

In the interview, the director told how he managed to include Carrie Fisher in the production. The story takes place after the events of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (2017). Anyone who watched “The Force Awakens” knows that the protagonist Rey (Daisy Ridley) ends the film by meeting Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) –the last Jedi– and asks him to teach her how to control the “Force”.

Carrie Fisher’s death was felt by the film’s producers. JJ Abrams managed to include her in the story, as the character is one of the last survivors of the Skywalker family. “Suddenly, I found the impossible answer to an impossible question,” Abrams tells the magazine.

The director remembered that he had a leftover from the footage of “The Force Awakens” and made a puzzle to get the same lines as Carrie and make them make sense in the new story. All this because he thought it no longer made sense to have a digital version of the actress, as happened in “Rogue One” (2016).

When the first trailer was released, scenes revealed news such as the participation of actor Billy Dee Williams, who played the character Lando Calrissian in the classic “Star Wars” trilogy, who makes the role for the ninth episode of the saga.
